5 Wellness Rituals for Wild Beauty

At Alchemy Jane, we believe in WILD beauty. The type of beauty that exists deep within the human body. The type of beauty that radiates outwards. The type of beauty that can’t be tamed. It’s our truest belief that we all carry this beauty somewhere within us, but it’s only when we learn to naturally care for ourselves with holistic wellness rituals that this beauty can express outwards.

We have always believed in the power of natural medicine, and the part it plays in our own wellness journey. Today we’re sharing some of the beauty rituals we hold closely. The rituals that have brought peace, vibrancy and wild beauty into our lives.

  1. Beauty Sleep

Deep, restful sleep is one of our most important tips for wild beauty. Sleep is a time of rest and repair. It helps to slow the aging process while allowing the body the time it needs to regenerate. Our best advice for achieving a good night’s sleep is a mindful night time ritual. An hour before bed, set your phone to night mode. Night mode automatically adjusts the screen to a warmer tone, and less blue light. This helps not to interfere with the body’s natural circadian rhythm. Spritz your pillow with lavender to calm your nervous system and prepare your body for sleep. Invest in silk pillow covers (naturally hypoallergenic to help reduce breakouts) and low lighting, and ensure there are few to no electronics in the room.

  1. Move Your Body

Because it’s what our bodies are made to do! With desk jobs, daily commitments and Netflix, we’re more sedentary than ever before. But the thing is – regular, healthy movement helps maintain healthy levels of sebum production (which in turn helps to prevent breakouts). Movement also supports collagen production; keeping your skin firm, supple and elastic. Not to mention that instant post-yoga glow! Aim to move your body everyday, and enjoy the experience. We don’t always make it to the gym (and don’t expect you to either), but we always make the effort to move. Sometimes it’s just dancing around while we clean, other times it’s a sweaty hot yoga or HIIT session. Whatever it is you like to do, just move!

  1. Embrace Nature

Fresh air is essential for the health of body, mind and soul. We know whenever we’re feeling blah a dose of fresh air is exactly what we need. With the amount of time spent indoors, we rarely just connect to the earth anymore. Make an effort to get outside. Put your feet on the earth and feel the fresh grass beneath you. It’s amazing what a day in the sun can do for mental health. Just make sure to protect your skin while you’re at it, and re-hydrate!

There are many foods you can eat to help boost your skin’s natural sun protection such as leafy greens, strawberries, almonds and green tea. Work to incorporate these into your diet, and always wear a natural sunscreen that uses red raspberry oil (natural spf of 28), and or zinc oxide.

Protecting yourself from the sun is one of the most important factors in maintaining a youthful complexion! Mindful sun exposure is extremely important for skin health. Overexposure can cause premature aging, sun spots, and wrinkles, along with more serious skin issues. Start early, and stay consistent!

  1. Botanical Beauty

Feed your skin, because it needs vitamins too! Rather than the skincare of days past that included harsh surfactants, aggressive exfoliators and toxic chemicals, reach for effective, natural and botanical based products to feed your skin with the nutrients it needs. Exfoliate with gentle manual exfoliants and AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) to slough away dead skin cells. This allows products to penetrate more effectively into the skin. Select antioxidant rich products with vitamin A, E and C to help strengthen the structure of skin cells, reduce harmful free radicals and encourage a glowing, vibrant complexion.

  1. Beauty Meditation

Although it’s easy to forget, the skin is a complex and dynamic organ that responds dramatically to the stressors of everyday life. Think of the way it answers with red, blotchy skin when we’re angry, or a dull, grey complexion when we’re stressed. Whether we’re sad, unsure, embarrassed or unhappy – the skin speaks, we just have to listen. One of our favourite ways to check in with ourselves (and our skin) is with meditation. Meditation is a wonderful ‘beauty’ tool because it forces us to be still, to check in and to reconnect with ourselves. It allows us to reflect on what matters, instead of burdening ourselves with things that don’t – allowing us to truly live in the moment.
